At Entero Energy we encourage our staff to stay at the cutting edge of new technologies and developments within the energy environment. We are therefore proud to say that two of our engineers are currently busy with their Masters in Engineering with a specific focus on alternative energy and their integration into the electrical network.
- Christoff Lombard (Klerksdorp office): M.Eng. The title of his dissertation is “Evaluation of system life cycle losses due to poor power quality in medium voltage distribution networks”. His study leader is Prof. Johan Rens (NWU, Potchefstroom). This study aims to develop a tool to estimate the energy, equipment and revenue losses caused by poor power quality. Christoff will be presenting a paper on “Evaluation of system losses due to harmonics in medium voltage networks” at Energycon 2016 in Leuven, Belgium. In addition Christoff is working on an international survey on prevailing harmonic phase angles in residential low voltage grids with Dr Jan Meyer of the Technische Universitaet Dresden, Germany. The results of this study will be documented in an article titled “The impact of residential PV on prevailing harmonic phase angles in residential networks”.
- Jaco Alberts Pr Eng (Centurion office): M.Eng. The title of his dissertation is “Impact of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy on Electricity Master Planning and Design Parameters”. His study leader is Prof. Jan de Kock (NWU, Potchefstroom). This study investigates whether traditional design methods and assumptions are still applicable when energy efficiency and renewable energy measures alter customer load profiles. Jaco presented a related paper in 2014 at the AMEU convention.
